Helpful Tools
Tip 1: Work the Scene
Don't stop taking photographs after only 2 shots; try to take 15-20. More is actually better in street shooting. Don't be shy to keep capturing images. If anyone tells you to stop, they're the ones who are in the wrong. Exercise your right to capture the images you want. The more you work the scene the more likely you are to make a great photograph. It's a game of numbers.
Tip 2: Use Your Flash
Use your flash to make your subject 'pop' from the background. You can make it easy on you by leaving your camera on the automatic flash setting. Try to keep your flash to minimum in the night though, since it might scare and blind some people. Your best bet during the night is to capture images under another source of light. You might not find a very bright source but you can find illumination under a neon light or a bright jukebox. It might not be the brightest or best light source but it'll allow you to get creative and capture some interesting images.
Tip 3: Get Eye Contact
It is said that the eyes are the windows to our soul. Eyes are a very expressive part of our face. By getting eye contact in your photograph, your viewer might feel a bigger connection to your subject in the photo. Just click until the subject makes contact with you. Once you've made eye contact follow their eyes with your camera and keep them sharp.
Tip 4: Get Low
Shooting from eye-level all the time only gives people their everyday perspective. Just like shooting the same subject from diffrent angles, taking photographs of people from differerent angles and prepectives can give your observer a different message as well as give your subject a diffrerent look. Try crouching down and shooting your subject from a low angle. You'll make your subject bigger than life.
Tip 5: Capture the "Unguarded" Moment
Attempt to capture the moment when someone forgets about you and drops their guard against you. Capturing images of a person that is not ready for them can allow you to catch them in a dream. A little bit of their soul will be captured in that shot.
